The Government of Canada believes that all Canadians deserve housing that is safe, adequate and affordable. Co-ops play an important role in delivering this type of housing to Canadians.
In Budget 2016, the federal government announced a one-time investment of $77.6 million over two years to renovate and retrofit social housing units directly administered by Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). CMHC announced a one-time call for applications in June 2016 and is currently making final decisions on the second round of program commitments.
In this context, I am pleased to announce that:
- Ann Marie Hill Housing Co-Operative at 164-170 Galloway Road has been recommended to receive $1,294,105 for window replacement, elevator modernization and engineering fees; and
- Innisfree Housing Co-Operative at 185 Galloway Road has been recommended to receive $1,239,501 for siding and attic insulation upgrade and engineering fees.
CMHC is working directly with Management at both Co-Ops to make arrangements to carry out the work and the disbursement of funds. Any questions regarding timing of work should be directed to the respective co-op’s property manager. ‘
There are 4 housing co-ops in Scarborough-Guildwood, with a total of 432 units. This includes 135 units at Ann Marie Hill Housing Co-Op and 72 units at Innsifree Housing Co-Op.
